Hello good people and welcome to my website. Pop by any time of course as I will be putting new work up regularly. So, this is the bit where I say a bit about myself and my work, so here goes.
Basically, I love doing pattern. Any excuse to get zoned out in doing patterns for hours. And I love the natural world, so lots of plants and flowers and birds. Insects, fish, and other animals. My biggest influences are three other female artists, Katherine Del Barton, Sue Paxton, and Caro Aravelo. They all use a lot of pattern and botanicals (and spots… We all seem to love doing spots, circles and spirals). Check them out if you’re in the mood, their work is spectacular.
I have been drawing/painting all my life really. As a child, I used to sit for hours drawing pictures of trees and birds. Art is my happy space. I don’t really understand the stereotype of the tortured artist in the garret. I can only do art when I’m feeling rested and good. But at the same time, it makes me feel good. Art is my passion. Art is my soul food.
My first love, apart from drawing, was printmaking. Mainly dry-point etchings. All of my prints are back home in Australia and I don’t know when I will get back into printmaking again, someday I imagine. But for now, I am so happy with drawing and painting. So, thanks for tuning in. I think that’s enough for now. Have a great day.
I like to use mixed media pretty much all of the time. A mix of graphite, pens, coloured pencils, chalk pastels, inks and acrylic. I always use high-quality, fade-proof brands and then layer finished work with UV-proof protective matte finish, so the colours will stay stable and strong. Work I did 30 years ago that I treated with a protective finish has held its colour beautifully, so I feel confident in this process.
Works on this site are available as the original artwork, or as a Giclèe print. What is a Giclèe print? It is a remarkable printing process that reproduces very high-quality prints, virtually indistinguishable from the original. The prints are on lovely, heavy, art-quality paper. Instead of the usual 4 colours that mainstream printers use, these images are produced with 12 different coloured inks, making for beautiful and true colour reproductions. I am releasing limited editions of these Giclèe’s of only 40 per artwork, so that keeps the image exclusive and special. There won’t be hundreds or thousands of them out there, only a limited edition of 40, hand-signed by the artist (AKA me). It’s a very exciting technology that allows more of my images to be available at a lower cost, making them more accessible, which I like very much.
